Convert HEIC to JPEG

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's version of the HEIF file format, offering superior image compression compared to JPEG while maintaining higher quality. Introduced with iOS 11, HEIC files typically use 50% less storage space than equivalent JPEGs. While primarily used on Apple devices, this format supports features like image sequences, transparency, and 16-bit color depth. However, compatibility can be limited on non-Apple platforms.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is a widely-used digital image format that efficiently compresses photographs and complex graphics. It reduces file size by selectively discarding visual data that human eyes are less likely to notice. While JPEG compression is "lossy," meaning some quality is sacrificed, it maintains good visual appearance at reasonable file sizes, making it ideal for web images and photo sharing.

JPEG files do not support transparency. The format only handles fully opaque pixels and cannot display partially transparent or completely transparent areas. When saving an image with transparent elements as a JPEG, transparent areas typically convert to solid white or black backgrounds. For images requiring transparency, use PNG or WebP formats instead, as these support alpha channels for transparent and semi-transparent elements.

Some quality loss is possible. Framebird decodes your HEIC image and encodes a new JPEG file, and JPEG is a lossy format that can drop fine detail. The default quality setting is 90, which keeps most detail for everyday use. Even quality 100 does not guarantee an identical image. Metadata from the source is not copied, so keep your original HEIC file as a backup.
