FAQ

Do all photos have EXIF data?

HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) files can contain EXIF data, but they dont always include this metadata by default. While HEIF supports EXIF metadata storage, the actual presence of EXIF information depends on several factors, including the device used to capture the image and any subsequent processing. Many modern smartphones and cameras automatically embed EXIF data in HEIF files, recording details like capture time, camera settings, and GPS coordinates. However, some devices might be configured not to record EXIF information, or users might deliberately strip this metadata using image editing software or privacy tools. Additionally, when HEIF files are converted to other formats or processed through certain applications, EXIF data can be lost or intentionally removed. Unlike some older formats such as GIF that dont support EXIF data at all, HEIFs technical capability to store this information doesnt guarantee its presence, and once EXIF data is removed, theres no reliable way to determine whether it was originally included in the file.

How to find the location of where a photo was taken?

HEIF pictures can reveal their capture location if they contain GPS metadata, also known as geotags. Using Framebird, you can easily access this location information by simply uploading your HEIF image to the platform. However, not all HEIF photos will have this data available, as it depends on your devices settings when the photo was taken. If youre concerned about privacy, you can disable geotagging in your phones camera settings, which prevents GPS coordinates from being embedded in future photos. This setting is particularly useful for those who want to maintain location privacy while sharing images online. Keep in mind that once geotagging is turned off, new photos wont include any geographical information, making it impossible to determine where they were taken through metadata analysis.

Is there a way to see hidden or blurred out parts of the photo?

There is no reliable way to reveal or restore blurred, censored, or hidden parts of a HEIF photo. Once an image has been edited to obscure certain elements, those pixels are permanently altered or replaced in the final file. While EXIF metadata contains information about the photos settings, camera details, and creation date, it doesnt store or preserve the original, unedited pixel data underneath censored areas. Any claims about software or tools that can unblur or remove censor blocks are typically misleading or fraudulent. The only way to see the original content would be to access an unedited version of the image that was saved before any blurring or censoring was applied. This is true for all digital image formats, including HEIF, as the censoring process fundamentally changes the image data at a pixel level.

Does EXIF data guaranteed to be true?

EXIF data in HEIF photos, like any other image format, cannot be guaranteed to be authentic or accurate. Digital image metadata can be easily modified using various software tools and editing applications, making it unreliable as a source of definitive information. While EXIF data typically includes details such as camera settings, date, time, and location information, these elements can be altered, removed, or completely replaced after the image is captured. This means that anyone with basic technical knowledge and appropriate software can manipulate the metadata to show different information than what was originally recorded by the camera. For this reason, EXIF data should not be considered as conclusive evidence of an images origin, timing, or authenticity, particularly in situations where verification of these details is crucial, such as in legal or professional contexts.

Is it safe to check EXIF Data on Framebird?

Checking EXIF data of HEIF photos on Framebird is completely secure and private, as the platform processes all image data directly within your browser without any server uploads. The tool operates entirely on your local device, ensuring that your photos and their metadata never leave your system or get transmitted to Framebirds servers. This client-side processing approach not only guarantees complete privacy but also saves data usage since no file transfer is required. The transparency of the process is further validated by Framebirds use of the open-source ExifReader library, which can be publicly reviewed on GitHub. This implementation makes Framebird a trustworthy choice for users who need to examine EXIF data while maintaining strict privacy and security standards for their digital images.

What file formats are supported?

We support all common image file formats including JPG, PNG, TIFF, AVIF, WEBP, HEIC, HEIF, JFIF, CR3, ARW, NEF, RAW and more. Your files never leave your device, all the processing is done locally in your browser. Thats why it's fast and secure.

Can I use this to remove metadata like GPS information?

If you want to remove the metadata from your image you can use either our Image Compressor or our Image Converter and tick the 'Remove Metadata' checkbox to remove the Metadata from your Image.
