What is the HEIC file type?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apples version of the HEIF file format, offering superior image compression compared to JPEG while maintaining higher quality. Introduced with iOS 11, HEIC files typically use 50% less storage space than equivalent JPEGs. While primarily used on Apple devices, this format supports features like image sequences, transparency, and 16-bit color depth. However, compatibility can be limited on non-Apple platforms.
